FREELANCE WRITER FAQ

Everything you have ever wanted to know about hiring a freelance writer

What does a freelance copywriter do?

A freelance copywriter does many things! We help your small business with marketing and sales by writing business blogs, product descriptions, website copy and more. We can also do proofreading and editing of your existing copy.

Furthermore, you can ask a freelance copywriter for help with social media posts, e-newsletters, internal policy documents… whatever you need!

As well as writing on your behalf, a freelance copywriter takes a tactical approach, crafting copy that conveys your message and incites your customers to take action.

It depends on your project but my hourly charge is $75 per hour plus GST.

Sometimes it may be more cost effective to agree on a flat rate, or even a cost per word.

I can provide an idea of how much I believe your job will cost before we get started. If you would like a formal proposal, let me know.

Usually a freelance copywriter has worked in the media or marketing industry… or both. In my case, I began my career in current affairs radio as a producer and reporter. I then moved on to an editorial position with Yahoo!7 and progressed to a technical role as a product manager. These roles have combined to give me a broad understanding of the digital realm and how to write for the internet as well as for offline publications.

Since becoming a copywriter, I have worked in online marketing, have written for newspapers and magazines and pulled together countless blogs to help businesses with their content marketing strategies.

Copywriting is very subjective and every now and then the first go is a write-off.

Your copywriting service includes two free rewrites based on your feedback to allow us to get to a point where you feel happy.

To reduce the odds of you not being happy with the copy, it helps to have a discussion beforehand about your goals and your target audience as well as the writing style/tone you prefer.

As a freelance copywriter, I have busy weeks and quiet weeks so sometimes I can provide work at short notice.

Generally, two weeks notice is ample, unless you have a major amount of work for me to do for you!

For a couple of reasons. Firstly, you may find it easy to write but finding the time to sit down and get started is the challenge. You have so much on your plate that it may be easier and more cost effective to outsource this part of your business.

Also, freelance copywriters know their stuff. We know the best ways to write website copy so that it speaks to your users and inspires action. We also understand the best way to lay out a blog for readability.

If you are confident you can write yourself, you can always engage a freelance copywriter to do a final proofread for you and provide their professional suggestions.

I request a deposit up front on jobs worth over $500.

On smaller jobs, I invoice at the end of the calendar month for the work I have provided you with and request a direct deposit or PayPal payment. I may start adding interest if your bill is not paid within a two week period.

If I supply you with raw copy and do not receive feedback within four weeks I will invoice for the cost of the work I have done.

I am happy to discuss payment terms before getting started.

On occasion I do reach out to qualified writers so I can balance my workload. All final copy is thoroughly checked and edited by me before being sent your way.
